Pennine Events Delivers The Sporting Legends Relay- the flagship event for Knowsley Borough of Culture 2022.

Spanning over 6 days, 150 miles, including 15 sporting legends, 40 community sports groups and approximately 3000 people, the Sporting Legends Relay was a fantastic event from start to finish despite the unpredictable British weather (a heatwave and torrential rain!). The event went off without a hitch and the baton made its way from EFC’s Finch Farm to LFC Academy, carried by sporting and local legends, including John Conteh (MBE), Steve McMahon and Alan Kennedy, sports groups, cyclists, runner, heritage walkers, toddlers and more!

Cycling World Championships Individual Time Trials

Each day offered a different mass participation run, walk or cycle for the local community and schools to take part in in a different part of the Borough, making sports accessible to everybody and highlighted just some of the many incredible sports facilities, venues and clubs across Knowsley.

The final day saw the Super Sports Day take place at Eddie Mcardle Playing Fields with a 200 strong parade, mass dance performances, a stage with live music, boxing and wrestling demos, a family zone, displays and demos from local sports clubs, food, drinks and more! It was an epic day for all the local community and residents of Knowsley to come together and celebrate the rich sporting heritage and the fantastic week on sporting celebrations through the relay.

Cycling World Championships Para- Cycling Road Races

Lots of hard work, planning and creative problem solving went into the event, from traffic management to route planning, multiple back-to-back mass participation events and an incredible amount of community engagement but we thoroughly enjoyed it and it was fantastic to be a part of another Borough of Culture event.
