2500 cyclists gathered in Liverpool and Chester and pedalled for purpose in the 29th annual LCL Bike Ride on 3rd July 2022.

It was a fantastic day from start to finish for everyone involved as the LCL community came together to take on the tunnel, pedal for purpose and challenge themselves. The 2022 event boasted a brand-new start/finish site at Chester FC which was just as wonderful as the start and finish site at Exchange Flags. From food and drink traders, live music and more, our riders had a great afternoon joining us at both sites for some much-needed R&R after they completed their ride!
This year’s LCL bike ride headline charity partner was NSPCC and all money raised for the charity was ringfenced to help children and fund projects in the Merseyside area. Approximately £12,000 was raised, paying for around 3,000 Childline calls or 480 hours of counselling with a trained professional.
Janette Drew, NSPCC Community Fundraising Manager for Cheshire, said:
“We are so grateful that the Liverpool-Chester-Liverpool Bike Ride named us their headline charity partner this year and are loved seeing everyone joining the ride raising vital funds for the NSPCC’s work. The charity was founded in Liverpool, and our links here have never been stronger, with our Childline and helpline services operating from the Hargreaves Centre, and new campaigns and services supporting families across Merseyside including Look, say, Sing, Play and Pregnancy in Mind. We rely on public donations for the majority of our funding, so every mile cycled in support of the NSPCC during this year’s ride made a real difference to families across the Northwest. The bike ride was a fantastic family event, for all cyclists of all abilities to take part in and being able to cycle through the tunnel after it has been closed off to traffic was a really special treat. We really enjoyed seeing the riders out there enjoying themselves for a good cause.”

A combined total of over £20,000 was raised for all charities involved in the LCL bike ride including NSPCC, Wirral Hospice, St Joseph’s Hospice and Northwest Air Ambulance, LCL’s 3 additional charity partners for 2022.
Thank you to everyone who supported LCL and raised money for or donated to all of the brilliant charities involved! We can’t wait for another epic year! The #LCLBikeRide2023 will be the 30th annual event and we are already gearing up to make it the biggest and best yet!

It is always a joy to work alongside such brilliant artists in such breath-taking venues. It was an absolute honour to be a part of such a wonderful event, we’re already looking forward to the next!
